Our Inner Richmond Food Pantry Is Now Open!

Jan 9, 2020

The Richmond Neighborhood Center’s newest food pantry is now open at George Peabody Elementary School! A partnership between the Neighborhood Center and the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank, the pantry will be open every Monday from 4:00 – 5:00PM in the Peabody schoolyard, located on 7th Ave between Clement and California Streets.

This is the Neighborhood Center’s third food pantry in the Richmond District, and our first to be located in the Inner Richmond. Between our existing food pantries and Home-Delivered Grocery program, we currently provide free, healthy groceries to over 700 individuals each week. In addition to offering a new day and location for our participants to choose from, the Peabody pantry has the capacity to serve an additional 200!

With more than 19,500 Richmond District residents at high risk of food insecurity—nearly 25% of the entire population of the neighborhood—there is still an incredibly large need to be met. Our food security services provide critical assistance that helps people make ends meet, and we’re proud to be expanding them with the goal of eventually serving all of our neighbors in need.

Any Richmond District residents living in zip codes 94118 or 94121 who feel they need food assistance are invited to sign up to receive weekly groceries at any of our three food pantries. If you, a family member, or neighbor could benefit from this assistance, simply come by in person and we’ll help you get started! There are no income requirements for this program, and even if you don’t live in one of the zip codes we serve, we can get you signed up for a pantry in your neighborhood.

We are also always looking for new volunteers to help out in our food pantries and Home-Delivered Grocery program! We offer volunteer opportunities for individuals and organizations to fit any schedule, from single-day outings to weekly commitments. Learn more below:
