Richmond District Lunar New Year Good Luck Parade 2025: A Spectacular Celebration of Community and Culture

This past Saturday, the Richmond District was alive with energy as thousands of people gathered to celebrate the first Richmond District Lunar New Year Good Luck Parade, kicking off the Year of the Snake in grand style. The event brought together a vibrant mix of cultural performances, community groups, local merchants, and special guests to honor this beloved tradition.

The parade featured appearances by new SF Mayor, Daniel Lurie, who opened the festivities with an inspiring speech, along with Assemblymember Catherine Stefani, and San Francisco Sheriff Paul Miyamoto. Also in attendance were Assessor Recorder Joaquín Torres, Police Chief Bill Scott, and Supervisor Connie Chan, all showing their support for the community. These city leaders were met with enthusiastic applause as they joined the festivities, walking alongside residents and waving to the crowds.

Families from The Richmond Neighborhood Center, including volunteers, neighbors, students from our afterschool programs across ten local schools, proudly marched together. The joyful atmosphere was further enhanced by local performers, cultural dances, and music that celebrated the richness of our diverse neighborhood.

The event was not just about fun and entertainment—it also provided opportunities for attendees to support local businesses. Many Balboa Village merchants along the parade route offered special discounts and deals in celebration of the Lunar New Year. Attendees could stop by their favorite shops and eateries, where businesses like Iggy’s, Oodle Yunnan Rice Noodle, and Balboa Produce provided special offers for the event.

We want to thank everyone who participated, supported, and cheered along the parade route. It was a wonderful day of celebration, bringing together people from all walks of life to honor our shared values of family, culture, and community.
