The Richmond Neighborhood Center began Beacon programming at Presidio Middle School in 2000. Beacon offers a fully comprehensive after school program from dismissal until 7:00 PM at the school site.
After School Anchor Program
Offers 6th and 7th grade youth an opportunity to investigate their interests and build soft and hard skills at Beacon. Youth will always participate in a check-in circle, collaborative hands-on activities and a learning debrief. They will also get a chance to show off their skills in the classroom or a culminating family night.
Presidio After School Program utilizes a club-based model during after school where each staff will facilitate 2-4 clubs all year long. Students will have the opportunity to choose different clubs at winter break. Students enrolled in the After School Anchor Program will still have the ability to choose their own schedule, though the schedule will be for a longer duration of time to allow for deeper exploration into chosen areas of study.
Youth often go on field trips on Wednesdays, so please inform Beacon staff if you are picking up, or expecting your child home early.
After School Academies
Offers 6th and 7th grade youth an opportunity to engage in content-rich activities and project-based learning. Youth will receive a special snack, program-wide announcements and individualized academic support. Academy participants host family nights and participate in culminating presentations.
Academies run Monday-Friday and youth can switch into and out of Academies every 5 to 7 weeks.
- C.O.D.E. Academy
Coding Opportunities that Develop Equity is a game coding program designed to provide opportunities for underrepresented youth. Registration for C.O.D.E. Academy will open on September 4th, and programming will start September 11th.
- STEAM Academy
Youth will have the opportunity to explore different areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics and the ways these areas connect and interact with one another.
- Sports Academy
Participants will explore an array of sports while learning and applying technical skills. Students who participate in Sports Academy will have the opportunity to scrimmage with each other on site, as well as with Beacon participants from other middle schools in San Francisco.
- Equity Academy
Youth explore a variety of culture and heritage with an equity-focused lens. Content includes cooking, culminating family nights, field trips, and a research project. Equity Academy begins on September 4th.
- Teen Center
8th Grade students will spend their time preparing for the future with high school preparedness and transitional programming. Participants in Teen Center work closely with the Program Leader and Activity Leader to plan and create their experiences after school.
- My Panther Academia
Students can self-select homework completion, academic skill building, and tutoring opportunities in this Academy. Families and Presidio staff & faculty can also nominate students for participation to increase ELA and Math proficiency.
WELLNESS CENTER SERVICES
Open to all Presidio students and in collaboration with Presidio Middle School, the Beacon offers coordinated student support during the school day. Services are offered on a referral basis and determined by the Student Support Services team.
