Washington High School Robotics Team Competes in SF, Sacramento Regionals

For the last five years, The Richmond Neighborhood Center has been proud to sponsor the Washington High School Robotic Eagles as they design and build robots to compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition. This March, the team had a great showing in both San Francisco and Sacramento regional competitions, where the theme was Destination: Deep Space!

The competitions are tests of mechanical and software engineering skills, as well as community building and collaborative strategy. At the event, the individual teams are randomly selected to partner with two other teams, called alliances, in a variety of qualifying rounds. The alliances will score points based on their robots’ ability to perform the specific tasks.

Once the qualifying rounds are completed, there are three playoff rounds that determine a winner that goes on to the National Competition in Houston, Texas. The Robotic Eagles finished 5th out of 43 in San Francisco, making it through to the semifinals, and 9th out of 59 in Sacramento, advancing to the quarterfinals.
