Richmond to Host First-Ever Lunar New Year Parade: A Celebration of Community and Culture

Richmond District, San Francisco—For the first time ever, the Richmond District will host a Lunar New Year Parade, inviting schools, businesses, community organizations, and local groups to celebrate together in a vibrant display of creativity, talent, and community spirit. The parade will take place on Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 3:30 PM to 8:00 PM along Balboa Street (35th Ave to 39th Ave). This inaugural event is poised to bring together a diverse array of participants to ring in the Year of the Snake.

This parade is a unique opportunity for local organizations to showcase their talents and promote their missions while engaging with the Richmond community. Whether designing a thematic float, delivering a live performance, or simply marching in unity, participants are encouraged to bring their best to this historic celebration.

Who Can Participate:

Schools, community-based organizations (CBOs), local businesses, artists, and community groups are all invited to join the parade. With categories for Best Thematic Float or Group, Most Entertaining Performance, and Best Community Spirit, there are multiple ways to shine and win recognition from the community.

“This is more than just a parade—it’s a chance for our local organizations to make an impact, showcase their creativity, and come together to celebrate a significant cultural moment,” said Yves Xavier, Community Programs Director. “We’re excited to see the community spirit on full display as we make history with Richmond’s first Lunar New Year Parade.”

How to Participate:

Groups interested in joining the parade must sign up by December 15, 2024. Spaces are limited, so early registration is encouraged. Participants should submit their entry form, including details of their float or performance idea.
