In a high-cost neighborhood like the Richmond District, it can be a challenge to make ends meet. People from all over our neighborhood, including hard-working people with low-wage jobs, can find themselves unable to afford all the food they need. Around 20,000 residents, mainly seniors, families with children, those unemployed and low-wage workers struggle with hunger in the neighborhood.
Thanks to our partnership with the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank, we provide over 700 Richmond District residents with free produce and groceries each week through our food pantries.
THE FOOD PANTRY IS OPEN THREE DAYS A WEEK:
- Every Monday from 3:00-4:00PM at George Peabody Elementary (251 6th Ave; Pantry located on 7th Ave between Clement and California St)
- Every Tuesday from 3:00-4:00PM at Lafayette Elementary (4545 Anza St; Pantry located on 36th Ave between Anza and Balboa St)
- Every Thursday from 2:30-4:00PM at The Richmond Neighborhood Center (741 30th Ave)
To receive food, please come to the food pantry and fill out a registration form (bring an ID and/or a piece of mail from the last three months that shows your address within the zip codes of 94121 or 94118).
*All volunteers are required to be fully vaccinated (includes booster shots). Please be prepared to provide verification of vaccination status upon your first day volunteering.
If you would like to donate food:
Please come by the Neighborhood Center with food donations and drop them off in the yellow bin outside of the Neighborhood Center.
