ROOSEVELT BEACON SUMMER CAMP
The Richmond Neighborhood Center Beacon at Roosevelt Middle School is offering several FREE, in-person summer programs where students can have fun, stretch their legs after a year of distance learning, and get ready to thrive when they return to school this fall! Read more and register below.
Roosevelt MS and the Beacon are committed to every student starting middle school on the right foot. This year we will welcome every 6th- and 7th-grade RMS student a spot in one our three Step Up events. Step Up is a 3-day program to introduce students to the Roosevelt campus, have them meet some of our amazing teachers and Beacon staff, and introduce them to some of their peers from other schools before we begin in August. Students participate in games, club-like activities and locker relay activities.
DATES: June 14-16, June 17-21, June 22-24
TIME: 9AM-12PM (with optional extended program focused on MS field trips and physical activity from 12-3PM)
In response to the effects of distance learning, Roosevelt MS and the Beacon are offering Learning Academies that reconnect students to academic motivation with fun and relevant activities. Based on available staff, teachers and Beacon staff will develop a 4-day unit that addresses some of the learning loss that occurred this past year, while at the same time engaging students with academic literacy.
DATES: June 28-July 1
CAMP BEACON: POST-PANDEMIC PASSPORT
This summer camp should feel like videos of cows being released from a barn after a long snowy winter. After a long year of distance learning, a city closed down and a lack of social connection, our middle schoolers deserve to get out and about in a safe way. Participants will participate in community-building and choice-based activities with field trips to explore all of San Francisco’s beautiful neighborhoods.
DATES: July 5-23
SUMMER TOGETHER LEAGUES
Middle schoolers are missing their chances to meet and compete! This summer, participants will use the method “Skill, Drill, Play” to condition and practice skills in basketball and flag football leagues with cross-city competition against other Beacons weekly. Open to rising 6th-9th grade students.
STUDENT OF COLOR ALLIANCE LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE
The Beacon has a long commitment to supporting BIPOC students with our identity-based clubs. This summer, rising 8th-grade students will practice event and meeting planning and facilitation to receive a gift card incentive, field trips and cultural exchange activities and to prepare for their roles as next year’s club leaders and Student of Color Alliance delegates.
DATES: July 5-23
Rising 8th graders should email their identity-based club leaders or email@example.com if interested.
The Richmond Neighborhood Center summer programs prioritize families with these criteria:
- Residents of HOPE SF, public housing, RVs and SROs
- Families that are experiencing homelessness
- Children in the foster care system
- English language learners
- Low-income families, with a focus on historically impacted communities, including people who identify as African American, Latino/a/x, Pacific Islander, and/or Asian
- Families who receive free or reduced lunch benefits
Higher enrollment priority will be given to applicants who are multi-system involved (part of more than one of the priority populations).
If you have any questions about our programs or the application process, please don’t hesitate to contact Bessie Natareno at firstname.lastname@example.org.
