Celebrating Another Wonderful Wine on the Westside

Oct 25, 2019

Thank you to everyone who took part in making this year’s Wine on the Westside such a fun and inspiring success! This is always one of our favorite events, as it brings together community members from all over the Richmond District including parents, volunteers, members of our partner organizations, and folks who just stopped in to see what all the excitement was about.

We’re delighted to announce that with your help, we raised more than $28,000, all of which will go towards supporting our neighbors in need! That represents an incredible investment by our community members in the well-being of youth, families, and seniors in the Richmond District.

Home-Delivered Grocery Volunteer Julie Garcia shares her story

At the event, we heard many moving stories from the volunteers and community partners who make our work possible. We were honored to be joined by our own District One Supervisor Sandra Lee Fewer, as well as longtime Home-Delivered Grocery program volunteer Julie Garcia. Julie shared her volunteering journey with humor and grace, recounting how she and her family became close friends with her senior participant. She also spoke about learning that her own parents had relied on food assistance for a time, reminding us that everyone needs help from time to time.

For the people who do this work, it’s not just about providing food—it’s about building a sense of community, support and friendship that is as meaningful for the volunteers as it is for their participants. With over 100 volunteers in the program, we know that Julie’s is just one of many stories like it.

We’d like to give a special thanks to La Promenade Cafe for hosting us for the 6th year in a row, as well as to all of our sponsors and the incredible local businesses and restaurants who donated wine, food, and silent auction items to Wine on the Westside this year. It was truly a taste of the best of the Richmond District, and a night to remember!
